R&D – Carbogenesis

Carbogenesis is a subsidiary of Soane Technologies (which is a subsidiary of Soane Labs) headed by David Soane, a former UC Berkely professor and serial entrepreneur. Having made a startup using low-pressure plasmas to create green hydrogen and green acetylene David decided to take on the carbon dioxide problem and hired a multidisciplinary team to do so, with PhDs in physics, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering from institutes like MIT, Cambridge, Oxford, Georgia Tech, and even UCR to develop the technology to make his vision possible.

As a scientist on the R&D team I was tasked with developing a reactor capable of operating at a wide range of operating powers and pressures using tools like COMSOL+ Multiphysics and techniques like ceramic 3D printing. Without giving too much away, it can be said that this goal was achieved and we have operated plasmas above atmospheric pressures at powers well exceeding anything in published scientific literature.
